First, BIG sadness at the surprising (to me), death of David Bowie. I was so shocked, I hadn't heard of his cancer. I keep thinking how utterly sad it was for his family this past Xmas knowing he was so sick. Very sad. I have loved him from the very very beginning and always will. The painting I did of him is without a doubt my best work and is most sought after by everyone who looks at my art. And now, yesterday, with Alan Rickman...ALSO passing at 69 with cancer! How weird is that? Truly one of my favorite actors. LOVED him in Galaxy Guest! Love Actually is one of my all time favorite Xmas movies....and of course our beloved Snape. What sadness for their families and for us as fans.
Second. I did a painting of Taylor Swift for my own special Taylor, our youngest son's girlfriend, who lives here in our guest cottage with Case. We are extremely close and she is not shy about her affections for the adorable Ms. Swift! My Taylor wished for a newer version of the Super Star playing guitar and rockin out...so I complied and she was thrilled.
Actually, funny story. I had played all kinds of games to convince her there was no way I could have this painting for her this Xmas, all while working my butt off to finish it in time. On Xmas Eve I finally said, that's it, I can't keep painting and changing things, so I took a photo or two and hid the canvass for the following morning.
However, that night, while we all sat around the dinning room table laughing our ass' off (mostly at my youngest son who is beyond hysterical)...we had music playing and the house was over the top with decorations left over from my big birthday celebration as well, I was going through my camera to show Taylor a photo I had taken and while scrolling through the images, you guessed it..my painting popped up right in front of her face!! I grabbed the camera with lightening speed, however, at this point Taylor had her hands to her face and was screaming in sheer excitement.
I began to cry of course, because all the surprise was now a wash, but then I pulled it unwilling together and went to retrieve the painting and handed it to her. Either way, she is loving her new painting!
Third. I finished a painting I had wanted to do for years of Frida Kahlo. I had a different idea of what I wanted but had a hard time finding a photo that I could work from to depict what I truly saw in my mind...but in the end, even though it's not what I envisioned, I LOVE this painting. It is now hanging on our dinning room wall and it's perfection!
And last...here are the promised photos of the special tree we had in the den...I decided to do a hombre effect and the top is covered in baby pink fading to the middle with hot and dark pink into gold and orange on the bottom...it's the best I've had in the den...I loved it to death!! Now I need to collect more vintage pink and orange ornaments to really fill this design out next year and beyond. I threw in some photos of the house on Xmas Eve then on Xmas night celebrating my birthday for reals...too much fun!
Hope your holidays were magical! Keep your family close and give them hugs...apparently life can change on a dime and you wouldn't want to miss out on telling someone how important they are to you...all my besties know what I mean..xo juner
